None of this is solved yet. But getting the framing right is the necessary first step.
The more emotionally capable AI becomes, the harder this gets
Companion AI. Mental health AI. Customer support AI. Emotionally engaged AI systems are expanding rapidly — faster than the safety discourse can follow.
And here’s the uncomfortable reversal: the more emotionally sophisticated an AI becomes, the higher its potential for affective harm. Content-safe AI is not the same as emotionally safe AI.
